ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — Milligan University Softball announced the passing of its cherished Coach Wes Holly early Sunday morning. Holly guided the Buffs for four decades since establishing the program in 1988.

Despite their heavy hearts, they are deeply grateful for his life and legacy as they announce the passing of Coach Wes Holly, Sr., who departed this world early this morning.
Coach Holly established Milligan’s softball program in 1988 and loyally directed it until the spring of 2025, achieving 1,009 career victories during his tenure. On March 4, 2025, he celebrated his 1,000th win, a feat ranking third all-time in NAIA history. Throughout his illustrious career, he led the Buffs to eight regular-season conference championships, two conference tournament victories, and a memorable journey to the 2021 NAIA World Series.
Beyond his achievements, Coach Holly was a devoted family man who dedicated his heart to Milligan and its students. Milligan Softball and the entire Milligan community will eternally appreciate the program he established, the standard of excellence he maintained, and the numerous lives he influenced. His legacy will inspire future generations, and his impact will resonate for years to come. They hold the Holly family in their prayers and celebrate a life so well-lived.

News Channel 11 interviewed Holly in March, during which he expressed that his passion for the game and his connections with “the girls” were what kept him on the Anglin Softball Field for 37 years as head coach.
