MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — On Sunday, the father of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro was observed alongside law enforcement in a secluded area of Moreno Valley, California, as efforts to locate the child’s remains continued. This comes two days following the arrest of the baby’s parents on murder charges.
Officials from the sheriff’s department were unavailable for immediate comment regarding the presence of Jake Haro and deputies in the area characterized by dry vegetation near the 60 Freeway by Gilman Springs Road.
The father was seen wearing an orange prison jumpsuit.
Jake and Rebecca Haro were arrested Friday morning at their home in Cabazon.
Emmanuel was reported missing on Aug. 14 around 7:47 p.m. local time. The child’s mother had reported a physical assault outside a store on Yucaipa Boulevard, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office last week.
Jake and Rebecca Haro were arrested at their residence in Cabazon, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
Rebecca Haro, the mother, alleged that as she was changing her child’s diaper outside her vehicle, an unknown man attacked her, causing her to lose consciousness. Upon regaining her senses, she claimed her child was missing.
Once on the scene in Yucaipa, scent-tracking dogs were deployed, but the 7-month-old was not found, officials said.
The sheriff’s department interviewed “multiple individuals” regarding the disappearance, including the child’s mother and father.
The sheriff’s office indicated that during interviews, Rebecca was challenged with contradictions in her initial story and chose to stop cooperating with the interrogation.
Following these discussions, authorities noted they couldn’t dismiss the possibility of foul play in Emmanuel’s disappearance. Extensive searches have been executed around Yucaipa and Cabazon, and several search warrants have been issued at the Haro residence. Additionally, authorities are examining a significant amount of surveillance footage from key areas.
