Most major TV shows have strict guidelines for actors’ conduct during filming, but Jessica Alba recently highlighted the intensity of these rules on the set of “Beverly Hills 90210.” During her appearance on “Hot Ones,” she shared that when she guest-starred in two episodes in 1998, she was instructed not to make eye contact with the show’s main cast.

Alba claimed she was told, “You’re not allowed to make eye contact with any one of the cast members, or you’ll be thrown off the set.” The host, Sean Evans, asked her to compare this with her experience on “The Secret World of Alex Mack,” where she had a much better time playing a bully during her first major TV role.

While stories like Alba’s aren’t unprecedented, given the show’s reputation for backstage drama, there’s a twist: several cast members have refuted her claim. Jason Priestly, a former “90210” star, denied the existence of such a rule on KiSS 92.5’s “The Roz and Mocha Show,” saying, “I don’t know who told Jessica Alba not to look at us.”

Jessica Alba’s 90210 co-stars claim no such rule existed

Priestly is among several former cast members disputing Alba’s narrative. On “The Roz and Mocha Show,” he emphasized that he always made an effort to ensure guests felt welcome, saying, “I would always go and talk to them and make sure they knew this was a place where we wanted them to succeed.”

In a withdrawn clip from their “90210MG” podcast discussed by Entertainment Weekly, Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth also claimed ignorance of such a rule. Spelling speculated it might have been a crew memo unknown to the cast. Garth humorously asked Spelling if she made that order since she filmed all her scenes with Alba and admitted to a poor memory, despite past disputes with another co-star.

Other cast members like Brian Austin Green and Ian Ziering have also commented. Ziering expressed disappointment on Access Hollywood, that Alba’s experience was marred, though it didn’t hinder her career. Meanwhile, Green mentioned on Instagram that he was unaware of such a rule. Was Alba’s claim a misunderstanding, or did guest stars face undue restrictions? It’s possible that another former guest might eventually confirm her story.
