A Champaign-based nonprofit has introduced a new initiative aimed at equipping families with the resources needed to cultivate nurturing home environments.

The Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club is launching the Raising Resilient Children Parent/Caregiver Academy to assist parents, grandparents, and other caregivers throughout the county.

“Ever heard the saying, ‘There’s no degree in parenting?’ Well, we’re offering a certification now,” remarked Amy Brown, CEO of the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club. “Families go above and beyond to learn and be the best for their kids. This certification acknowledges their commitment to fostering strong, resilient households.”

The Raising Resilient Children Academy will hold weekly sessions, covering subjects such as parenting techniques, trauma-informed care, and conflict resolution skills. The program will conclude with a Spring Parent/Caregiver Conference, featuring various workshops and a graduation ceremony.

Participants will also earn a “Raising Resilient Children” Certificate of Completion at the end of the program.

“We are thrilled to launch this initiative and make it a reality,” said Monica Miles-Shellman, COO of the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club. “This represents a significant advancement for our community, and we are eager to collaborate with schools and organizations to ensure families receive the support they need to flourish.”
