CATLIN, Ill. (WCIA) — A planned solar project in Vermilion County is progressing, despite recent changes in the USDA’s policy on renewable energy.

Earthrise Energy is working on a 1,400-acre solar development located between Catlin and Tilton. Although the USDA recently declared that it would cease funding solar and wind initiatives on agricultural land, the continuation of this project remains unaffected.

“The USDA’s decision won’t impact our plans,” stated Ellis Ginnis, the project manager. “We do not intend to seek federal grants for the Tilton solar project.”

Ginnis explained that the endeavor will be financed through private means. They are actively engaging with the community for feedback and their upcoming move involves applying for the required permits.
