Bob Katter recently confronted a journalist for inquiring about his ancestry during an odd and at times unsettling press conference that he held to endorse anti-immigration rallies.

9News reporter Josh Bavas began asking Katter about his Lebanese heritage, but wasn’t able to finish his question before the furious MP interjected.

“Oh mate, don’t say that because that irritates me,” Katter shouted.

Katter then said Bavas didn’t have the freedom to ask a question because it was racist and he didn’t consider him a “proper, fair-minded Australian”.

Historical records indicate that Katter’s grandfather emigrated from Lebanon to Australia in the late 1800s, initially named Carlyle Assad Khittar, before his name was changed to Carl Robert Katter.

The long-serving politician was today promoting anti-immigration rallies which will be held across the country this weekend.

“If you harbor anti-Australian views, then leave my country, as we’re now keeping track of anyone who mistreats our national flag,” he declared at another moment during the press conference.

“We’re taking their names down. The gloves are coming right off.”

Born in 1945 in Cloncurry, Queensland, Katter has a track record of responding with anger to inquiries regarding his background, having previously labeled similar inquiries as racist back in 2018.
