CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Bristol woman was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly evading police in Carter County.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported that deputies observed a black SUV struggling to stay within its lane on Coal Chute Road shortly after 3 p.m.

A deputy attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and the driver, identified as Tiffancy Neal, 37, reportedly failed to stop.

“The deputy noted that the vehicle was moving at around 15-20 miles per hour on Coal Chute Road. The driver bypassed several side roads and a church parking lot where stopping safely was an option,” the CCSO explained. “The SUV almost collided head-on with several vehicles and veered off the road multiple times, as reported by the deputy.”

A second deputy arrived and the two were able to box in the SUV. Neal then stopped the vehicle.

“Once the vehicle was halted, officers approached and found [Neal], who seemed to be impaired by drugs or alcohol,” according to the report. “The deputy mentioned that [Neal] appeared very sluggish and seemed to be slipping in and out of consciousness.”

Neal was removed from the vehicle and the vehicle rolled forward due to not being in park. The vehicle then hit one of the patrol vehicles.

Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) investigated the crash, and Neal was charged with driving under the influence.

After being evaluated at a local hospital, Neal was taken into custody.

In addition to being charged by THP, Neal also faces charges from the CCSO for evading arrest and driving on roadways laned for traffic.

As of Thursday, Neal is being held on a $5,750 bond at the Carter County Detention Center.
