TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. () Tybee Island Maritime Academy (TIMA) announced Thursday that the school has been recognized by the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) as a 2025 School of Distinction.

TIMA achieved this accolade through a rigorous review process that included a comprehensive school-wide assessment, continual improvement planning, and interviews with staff, students, and families. The evaluation emphasized the school’s STEAM culture, place-based interdisciplinary learning, and strong community partnerships as exemplary strengths.

Peter Ulrich, the executive director of TIMA, stated that the award is a result of a collective effort. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our students, educators, and the Tybee community who make this school such a special place.”

“It is an honor to recognize Tybee Island Maritime Academy as a 2025 AMLE School of Distinction,” said Stephanie Simpson, CEO of AMLE. “Their dedication to fostering a thriving middle school community sets a powerful example, and we’re excited to share their story with educators worldwide.”

Tybee Island Maritime Academy will present its achievements at the AMLE20 convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, in November.
