TYLER, Texas (KETK) — It’s not uncommon for writers to embed their real-life experiences into their stories. One young author from East Texas is channeling her own life into her work to spread a powerful message of kindness.

Kylie Wright, a children’s author, stands out from the crowd, as, at only 11 years old, she has already achieved the remarkable goal of becoming a published author.

“I’ve always loved writing, like even since I was little, I just love writing stories,” Wright said.

Wright’s writings focus on raising awareness about Tourette’s Syndrome. “I’ve had Tourette’s for as long as I can remember,” she shared. “I started having them when I was three.”

Following experiences of bullying at school, Kylie decided to channel her feelings into creativity rather than anger. Instead of retaliating with unkind words, she put her emotions on paper, beginning her first book.

“Suddenly, she came to me with a draft, and she was already on page four,” said Kylie’s mother, Brandi Kreger. “I told her, Kylie, this is good, you really should finish this.”

Finish it she did, her book ‘My Sparkle’s Still Bright’ was then published on Aug. 15.

“The story is about a little girl named Emma who has Tourette syndrome and faces bullying because of it,” explained Wright. “When she returns home, her mother reminds her not to let anyone dim her sparkle, and she makes sure not to.”

Wright isn’t stopping there with plans for more books in the future. Mature beyond her years, Kylie is stressing the message ‘You’re beautiful just the way you are’.

“Your difference is what makes you so special, and to not let anyone dim your sparkle,” Wright said.
