A Florida man was arrested on a domestic violence charge after his wife was found dead and floating in a nearby canal.
According to Coral Springs Police, Jeffrey Ernest Evans, 43, contacted 911 on Monday night just before 9 p.m. claiming his wife was experiencing a “mental break” and required help, reported WPLG. Six minutes following that call, a second 911 caller reported hearing a woman scream, “My husband is trying to kill me.”
When police arrived, they found Jessica Lloyd, a Delray nurse, floating face down in the Broward County canal. She was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.
Hours later, Evans was charged with domestic violence with simple battery.
The arrest report indicates that Evans informed detectives he and Lloyd were having problems and issues related to infidelity. He mentioned she had taken his laptop, leading to a struggle over it, but they reconciled, and later that night, when he went to bed, she was not there.
Evans also stated that Lloyd ran outside screaming. He said he attempted to restrain her and bring her back inside but ceased because he didn’t want to appear as the aggressor.
Records show that Evans, a former firefighter, had a prior domestic violence charge in 202, before he met Lloyd.
Evans was given a $1,000 bond and ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor and surrender his passport.
Police said they are still investigating Lloyd’s death, WTVJ said.
