The Israel Defense Forces said on Saturday that it had killed the Houthi prime minister and several other senior officials in a strike in Yemen.

“The Houthi Prime Minister, Ahmed Al-Rahawi, along with other top officials from the Houthi terrorist group, were killed in an IDF attack on Sanaa, Yemen,” announced the IDF through social media.

The IDF explained that it targeted a Houthi location where officials involved in orchestrating military advancements, building up forces within the Houthi terror group, and planning terrorist activities against Israel were based. The IDF emphasized its commitment to countering threats to Israeli civilians.

The airstrike was conducted by the Israeli Air Force Thursday using intelligence gathered by the IDF.

According to the IDF, the Houthis operate under Iranian guidance with intentions to harm Israel and its allies. The group also accuses the Houthis of “destabilizing the region and hindering global navigation freedom.”

The Thursday strikes were conducted after Israel intercepted two drones originating from Yemen. This operation coincided with a speech made by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, reported by YNet, which noted the address continued uninterrupted.

The conflict between Israel and the Houthis has gone on for nearly two years.

The Iran-supported terror group had issued threats against Israel days following the Oct. 7 massacre by Hamas. Following Hamas’ assaults, the Houthis launched missiles and drones towards Israel, which were intercepted by U.S. forces stationed on the USS Carney.

The Houthis have continued to attack Israel in support to Hamas.
