Rudy Giuliani is on the mend from a fractured vertebra and other injuries he sustained during a car accident in New Hampshire, according to a statement from a spokesperson for the former New York City mayor released on Sunday.

The incident occurred when Giuliani’s car was rear-ended on a highway Saturday evening, as shared in a statement on X by Michael Ragusa, who heads Giuliani’s security team.

“He sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously,” Ragusa said, adding: “This was not a targeted attack.”

The 81-year-old Giuliani was taken to a nearby trauma center where he was treated for a fractured thoracic vertebra, various lacerations and bruises, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg, Ragusa reported.

Before the collision, Giuliani had assisted a woman involved in a domestic violence case by contacting the police on her behalf, as mentioned by Ragusa. He explained that the subsequent accident was “random and unrelated” to the domestic violence situation.

Giuliani was in a rental car and “no one knew it was him,” Ragusa also said in the post on X.

Additional information from another spokesperson for Giuliani, Ted Goodman, and the New Hampshire State Police was not immediately available.

Andrew Giuliani, Rudy Giuliani’s son, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support via a post on X, saying, “Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world.”
