CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man who helped catch a burglary suspect while wearing Batman pajamas has spoken out about the incident.

On Aug. 27, officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at a home around 2:03 a.m.

At the scene, they found the suspect had already been captured by a man wearing Batman pajamas, Kyle Myvett, a contractor by day and hero by night.

Myvett shared with reporters that he was in bed when his security camera alerted him to an attempted break-in of his truck. Curious, he went outside to investigate and saw the suspect, Justin Schimpl, 20, entering his neighbor’s garage.

“I got a hold of their shirt and their right wrist, and I told him, I said, listen, don’t try to get away,” said Myvett.

As reported by NBC affiliate WBBH, Myvett mentioned that the Cape Coral neighborhood is typically considered safe, so he had left his truck unlocked, which allowed the suspect to access and steal more than $800 worth of items from both him and his neighbors.

The Cape Coral Police Department apprehended Schimpl, announcing that he had taken several items, such as two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, cash, a wristlet, and gift cards exceeding a value of $500.

In response to a question regarding his choice of sleepwear, Myvett quipped, “I don’t wear Superman pajamas because if you’re impervious and invincible, you’re not really brave, you know?”
