POLK COUNTY, Fla (WFLA) — The Polk County Commission is set to vote on new ordinances aimed at preventing disruptive behaviors like the lakeside altercation from early August, where two individuals were knocked out and several arrests were made.

Residents express concern about possible retaliation from those causing these disturbances, urging the commission to implement the ordinances for their protection.

“It’s been pretty wild. It’s gotten wilder and wilder every year,” said Scott Miller, who lives on Lake Winterset.

Incidents reported include individuals parking near a boat ramp and playing loud music, others were seen defecating in bushes, culminating in a backyard fight that resulted in eight arrests. This altercation seemed to be the breaking point for county officials, who had warned about trespassing in the area multiple times.

“You have unleashed the teeth of the dog, and now we’re going to start enforcing just like we did here,” stated Sheriff Grady Judd during an August press briefing.

Judd said his department asked the county to designate swim zones and enhance the noise ordinance on the lake. Tuesday, the county will vote on it.

“We are committed to ensuring safety for our swimmers and families and preventing poor behavior,” remarked County Commissioner Becky Troutman at a meeting in August.

The exclusion zones would apply to Lakes Winterset, Ariana, and Clinch. Miller said he thinks the county will find a way to get it done.

“I believe it will discourage people from parking on the point, and it’s also about safety,” said Miller. “I just want to enjoy my property without disturbance.”

The commission meeting starts at 9 a.m.
