SBS has announced its 2026 line-up, featuring major global events combined with daring local storytelling across its diverse multi-platform networks.
With coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026, fearless documentaries, bold Australian dramas, and culinary programs that unite cultures, SBS continues to thrive by narrating stories that resonate with contemporary Australia while connecting globally.
SBS will stay a premier destination for food programming, whereas NITV will continue to amplify First Nations narratives with content that embodies community spirit and resilience.
SBS’s acting managing director, Jane Palfreyman, remarked that 2026 will be “our greatest year yet”.

“We are presenting a daring content slate that is both proudly diverse and deeply engaging, ranging from global formats to original storytelling uniquely available to Australians,” Palfreyman stated on Wednesday.

Alone Australia heads to the Arctic

The spectacular and intimidating wilds of the Arctic Circle are the new setting for the fourth season of smash-hit survival series Alone Australia.

In 2026, ten new contestants will venture into the Northern Hemisphere winter, facing subzero temperatures, heavy snows, frozen lakes, and frigid forests. They must rely on their skills and creativity to outlast the rest and claim the $250,000 prize.

The first season of the survival series placed contestants in the wilderness of Tasmania, while the second season transported them to New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park. After returning to Tasmania for the third season, Alone Australia will now face its most challenging and daunting location yet.

Sporting events that stop the world

The single largest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup, will be shown exclusively on SBS. Next year, the Cup heads to Canada, Mexico, and the USA for a record-breaking 104 matches, all screened on SBS with world-class commentary from a trusted team of football experts.
As the exclusive broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup 2026, SBS will deliver over 550 hours of coverage, including every match live in HD, replays, and exclusive pitch-side crosses.

SBS is also thrilled to announce exclusive rights to broadcast the Tour de France Femmes through 2030. As Australia’s premier home of cycling, SBS will once again provide free and live coverage of the most renowned cycling events to Australians.

Documentaries that shift the conversation

SBS will persist in pushing boundaries with documentaries that explore some of our most significant and thought-provoking topics. The three-part series The People vs Robodebt highlights those who challenged a powerful system during one of Australia’s bleakest recent histories.

Shut Your Big Fat Mouth John Safran will see the author and documentarian take on the heated topic of censorship.

Meanwhile, two popular series will return for their second season:

  • The Hospital: In the Deep End
  • The Jury
SBS will also continue to bring audiences premium international drama, unveil two new ambitious original SBS dramas and champion unmissable, bold and unapologetic Blak stories with NITV.
