Alexandra Dominguez (Marion County Jail).

A Florida woman was convicted of choking her mother and grabbing her brother by the groin in an argument spurred by a missing PlayStation 4 game.

A jury in Marion County last week found 21-year-old Alexandra Dominguez guilty of domestic battery by strangulation and battery following a brief 20-minute deliberation, according to the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.

On April 24, 2024, Dominguez followed her mother and brother home from a park near SW 43rd Terrace Road in Ocala with the intention of retrieving a PlayStation 4. Her family asked her to stay outside while they fetched the console for her. Once it was handed over, Dominguez became upset about a missing game, leading to a verbal dispute at the doorstep that soon escalated into a physical altercation.

Dominguez initially assaulted her mother by seizing her throat. Although the mother fled inside, Dominguez pursued her, causing her to fall onto the couch. Dominguez then grabbed her mother’s throat once more and choked her for approximately one minute, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit.

“Based on the victim’s account and the duration for which the suspect’s hands were around the victim’s throat, it could be reasonably inferred that the blood flow to the victim’s throat was impeded,” detectives noted.

The brother’s attempt to intervene was thwarted when Dominguez “grabbed his groin and tugged on his beard hair,” officers reported. Though she was eventually ejected from the residence, Dominguez continued to bang on the front door persistently.

Dominguez drove back to her home in Naples, but cops later arrested her.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
