FC Koln has begun their Bundesliga season in spectacular form, securing victories in both of their initial matches, most recently with a commanding 4-1 triumph over Freiburg. While these results are noteworthy, it’s their manager, Lukas Kwasniok, who is stealing the limelight.
Instead of the usual suit or tracksuit, the Polish coach has turned heads by donning Koln’s own match shirts on the sidelines.
He wore the away kit on the opening weekend against Mainz, before switching to the third kit for the Freiburg clash.
Explaining the decision, Kwasniok said he wanted to show his dedication to the club.
“When I saw the jersey presentation at a sponsor event, I got goosebumps. The same happened with the black jersey. My decision was immediate: if given the chance, I would embrace it,” he remarked after Koln’s opening day win against Mainz. “My commitment to this club is unwavering, and I proudly wear this jersey.”
He humorously added that there was another reason for his jersey choice: “I figured the combination of black with white-red might make me appear slimmer. However, watching the TV broadcast after the match suggested otherwise.”
Currently, Koln is in third place in the Bundesliga, trailing only Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt. With the momentum they’re building, it’s doubtful anyone will object if their manager continues to sport the team’s colors every game day.
