Top rap artist Nicki Minaj displayed her political knowledge during a conversation Sunday with White House Communications Director Steven Cheung.
The pair spoke aboard Air Force One as it traveled to President Donald Trump’s rally in Michigan, where Minaj was expected to address the crowd later that day.
Cheung shared a video of the exchange on X, writing in the caption: “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ.”
Among Cheung’s questions was Minaj’s assessment of the US economy under Trump. The rapper was dressed in a Gucci suit reportedly worth $6,000.
“Well, we have a president who understands economics first of all. You know, I’ve said before that the president is, naturally, a businessman,” Minaj said. She added: “He’s worked his way out of not having a dollar left in the bank.”
“If he can do that himself, with his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country,” she continued.
Minaj also praised Trump’s approach to international affairs, saying: “He’s tough internationally. He tells them what we need, not what they need.”
Before Trump’s rally, Minaj told Our News Outlet: “This election is the most important midterm election of our lifetimes.”

“We need to make sure that our great President has a great team in Congress to work with during his final two years in office so he can continue to create great programs like the Trump accounts, which I am a proud supporter of,” she said.
Trump has been drawing on celebrity support during the final days of his midterm campaign swing. Recent guests have included boxers Mike Tyson, Jake Paul, Floyd Mayweather and Evander Holyfield, as well as country music singer Jason Aldean.
While traveling to Trump’s Sunday afternoon rally in Port Huron, Minaj also highlighted the president’s work ethic.
“The man won three elections!” she exclaimed, before continuing, “He wakes up at four o’clock in the morning. He outworks people who are half his age.”
“What does that say about his character? He’s paying it forward. He’s thinking about the other Republicans who have to win in this election. That tells me that he’s a great guy,” she said in closing.
In January of this year, Minaj unexpectedly appeared alongside the president on stage Wednesday in Washington, DC, at an event promoting Trump Accounts.
Trump praised Minaj at the time for investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in accounts for the children of her supporters. He then departed from his prepared remarks to invite her on stage with businessman and Our News Outlet contributor Kevin O’Leary.

The so-called Trump Accounts are designed to give children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, a tax-advantaged investment of $1,000 from the Treasury Department.
The initial $1,000 contribution could then be supplemented by as much as $5,000 in annual investments.
If maximum contributions are made to the Trump Account, the projected value would be $1.1 million by the time they reach 28-years-old.
Minaj, who appeared shier-than-usual in front of the government and business audience that month, gushed about Trump despite backlash over her outward support for the President.

‘I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan,’ Minaj reaffirmed from the podium in the Andrew W Mellon Auditorium in January, before adding ‘And that’s not going to change.’
She said any hate towards Trump motivates her and his backers to support him even more.
The Trinidadian rapper also shared with fans earlier this year that she is working to obtain her US citizenship.
‘Residency? Residency? The cope is coping,’ she typed out in a separate post on X. ‘Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President. Thanks to the petition.’
Minaj continued, ‘I wouldn’t have done it without you. Oh CitizenNIKA you are thee moment Gold Trump card free of charge.’
This year, Minaj has advocated for Trump and Vice President JD Vance on social media.
She also supported Erika Kirk at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in December 2025 and has since come out as a strong Trump supporter.
