SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Friday featured hot and humid conditions making a return to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.

Temperatures in the region reached the upper 80s and lower 90s, with humidity pushing the heat index to around 95°-100°. The mainly sunny skies provided no clouds or rainfall for relief.

A southeasterly flow will maintain the feeling of late summer, with warm and muggy mornings in the low-70s and afternoons reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s. There will be more cloud cover on Saturday, with even more expected on Sunday. Heat index values will stay between 95° and 100°.

A slow-moving cold front will approach the region by Sunday morning. Moisture is expected to accumulate along its boundary as it stalls just offshore. There is a 20% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, though most of the area and the day will remain dry.

As the front stalls and deeper moisture moves in, there will be heightened rain chances as the week begins. Scattered storms are possible on Monday and Tuesday.

Tracking the Tropics

In the tropics, a tropical wave located between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Caribbean continues to slowly work westward.

Due to dry air and minimal thunderstorm activity, Invest 91-L has encountered difficulties on Friday. The National Hurricane Center has lowered the development chance to 60%.

Forecast models have decreased the predicted intensity of this system. It is progressing slowly, and if it manages to overcome the adverse environment, it will organize slowly as well. Keep an eye on it as it potentially moves westward.

There are no tropical threats to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry at this time.
