FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Guinness has verified that Alex Babich’s sunflower, named Clover, has officially surpassed the world record during an official measurement.
Back in August, the sunflower grew beyond the existing world record, which had been set by a German farmer 11 years ago. The milestone moment when Babich’s flower reached this height was captured on film by a documentary crew.

This summer, Babich was thrilled to have even passed the US record and was surprised to see Clover continue to reach new heights.
On Wednesday, a member of the Guinness Book of World Records joined a Zoom call all the way from London with Babich for an official measurement.

The sunflower has not only beaten the record, but it has blown past it by five and a half feet. The official measurement reaches 35 feet, 9 inches.
After his win, Babich told WANE 15, “The experience has been incredible. I feel really honored. The overwhelming support from everyone has been amazing. It’s fantastic. I appreciate it, everyone.”
