AUGUSTA, Ga () – The Shroud of Turin remains an enigma that captivates countless individuals globally, and this week, locals in Augusta have the opportunity to see it.
At the Warren Church’s Augusta campus, visitors can view a replica of the Shroud of Turin currently touring the nation, alongside an exhibit detailing Jesus’s life.
The experience enables people to view events that unfolded at the time of the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I chatted with Warren Baptist Church’s Pastor, David McKinley, who mentions that the exhibit allows people to gain deeper insights into this historical period.
“Due to the historical evidence, scientific analysis, and continued debates regarding the shroud’s authenticity, it has sparked numerous conversations about its significance and what evidence can reveal about our faith,” McKinley explained.
Although McKinley has traveled to Israel and explored the Holy Land, he finds it meaningful to now offer this experience to his community.
“Our aim is not to definitively prove the artifact’s authenticity but to acknowledge it as one of many pieces of evidence that affirm our faith, a historical and truth-based faith,” stated McKinley.
He told me it’s surreal to be able to look at some of the items that were a part of the culture of the first century.
“To be able to consider what we read in the biblical record and what we see with our eyes in the evidence of what’s found here both in the artifacts of crucifixion as well as the Shroud of Turin,” said McKinley.
The experience is free to the public. You can view the Shroud of Turin along with many other pieces now through September 14th.
