VMAs bow to the Prince of Darkness with tribute performance

Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July at age 76, was honored with a star-studded tribute performance Sunday during the Video Music Awards.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry joined forces with YUNGBLUD and Nuno Bettencourt to perform a medley of the songs by the late Black Sabbath frontman. They covered iconic tracks like “Crazy Train,” “Changes,” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”

The performance started with an introduction from Osbourne’s son, Jack, and some of his grandchildren, who shared a heartfelt video message with VMAs viewers about their cherished family member.

“I know for certain it would bring him immense joy to see these talented artists continue his legacy and inspire future generations of rock musicians,” expressed Jack Osbourne.

“In the words of our papa, ‘Let’s go crazy,'” the grandkids added, referring to his popular song “Crazy Train.”

Towards the latter part of his career, Osbourne became synonymous with MTV, the channel that also hosts the VMAs. His family was featured in the reality series “The Osbournes,” which aired on the network from 2002 to 2005.

The “Prince of Darkness” received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.

Osbourne reunited with his original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for their final show on July 5.

The reunion performance came just months after Sharon Osbourne revealed that her husband was unable to walk because of Parkinson’s disease.

The VMAs tribute ended with the artists yelling in unison: “Ozzy forever, man.”
