It’s unclear at the moment but circumstances on the ground would suggest “not”.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared a post on X approximately an hour ago, stating, “The individual responsible for today’s tragic shooting, which claimed the life of Charlie Kirk, is now detained.”

Conversely, during a press conference held at about the same time, local authorities, along with the police chief and an FBI spokesperson, mentioned that the search for the shooter is still ongoing.

And heavily-armed police including SWAT officers are still swarming the campus and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Nonetheless, there may be one or two people in custody.

Law enforcement confirmed they had apprehended a “person of interest” but did not elaborate further.

What’s also unclear is whether or not that “person of interest” is the same person that police took into custody shortly after the shooting happened.

That person was initially released but later booked into the local jail under suspicion of obstruction of justice.

Conflicting updates can prompt confusion, but there is no indication the shelter-in-place order for people on campus has been revoked.
