WARR ACRES, Okla. (KFOR) – Dozens of roosters in a Warr Acres backyard have neighbors telling officials to do something.

“It’s not like there are just a couple of birds; there are a lot of birds,” said one of the neighbors who wanted to remain nameless.

The residence is situated near Northwest 58th and MacArthur Boulevard. The neighbor who decided to voice his concerns mentioned that while he does not wish to cause trouble for the family, he is exasperated that no actions have been taken.

“This has been ongoing for three years, and over the last year, it’s become unbearable,” the neighbor remarked. “It’s relentless. At 2 a.m., you can hear them screaming, day and night.”

He said that he has reached out to Warr Acres Animal Control, but they haven’t done anything about it.

“I shouldn’t be the one who has to go down to the court and file things and take my neighbors to court, basically,” said the neighbor.

Warr Acres city codes only allow two roosters per plot that is over 1/3 of an acre, and allow 18 chickens with that space too.

Code states that it is a maximum fine in Warr Acres if you break that amount.

In other locations, regulations may vary. Numerous cities in Oklahoma mandate permits for keeping chickens in residential backyards, and many also strictly prohibit roosters, or limit residents to having no more than two.

Our affiliate, KFOR, contacted Animal Control on Friday to inquire if they are aware of the situation. An employee confirmed that they are and that an investigation is underway. KFOR also attempted to reach the homeowner for their input, but they were not present at the time.

“We just don’t know what else to do because of the noise; it’s irritating. It’s not a pretty bird,” said the neighbor.
