Man in custody for destroying Charlie Kirk memorial in Phoenix: Police

() A man is in police custody after police said he destroyed a community memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sunday.

Nineteen-year-old Ryder Corral was taken into custody at approximately 10 a.m. local time near the Phoenix office of Turning Point USA, a youth political group co-founded by Kirk.

Footage captures a man, identified as Corral, toppling flowers, vases, and memorial items placed by mourners. Another individual is seen pulling him to the ground, holding him until police arrived to arrest him.

Numerous tributes for Kirk, who was tragically killed last week, occurred over the weekend. Law enforcement was already present to help manage traffic flow due to the significant increase in pedestrian activity after Kirk’s passing.

Tyler Robinson, the suspected shooter, was apprehended 33 hours post-incident at Utah Valley University’s campus. Surveillance showed him in a long-sleeve black T-shirt featuring an American flag and eagle design on the front. Corral, who appears to have no link to Robinson, wore a short-sleeve black T-shirt with a comparable design.

Corral faces charges of criminal damage, trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to a Phoenix Police Department news release.
