Five cops have been wounded after being shot in rural Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon.

Three officers are in a ‘grave’ condition, and another is listed as critical. A York County Sheriff Deputy also suffered injuries in the incident, according to officials.

Another cop is believed to be dead, a source told ABC News. The county coroner has earlier been spotted at the scene. 

Authorities were reportedly serving a warrant when an alleged suspect opened fire, sources told NBC10.

The alleged shooter is believed to be dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound, the sources added. 

Schools in the Spring Grove School District and hospitals in the York County area have been locked down as emergency crews respond. 

York Hospital is treating two people who are in serious condition. The building has enhanced security measures because of the incident.

The first 911 call came in at 2:10 pm, followed by several others, including one reporting ‘officer down’ and ‘signal 13,’ indicating an officer is in distress.

Multiple police officers were shot at, with some taken to a nearby hospital via helicopter 

At least 30 shots were fired in the attack, one witness told WGAL.

‘It was just continuous,’ Dave Miller said. ‘More than what I could count, but it was at least 30 shots and it went on for quite a while.’ 

Miller said he was heading home from work when he saw police ‘looking for someone.

‘Then I heard gunshots and saw people on the ground, so I got out of there,’ one witness said, detailing how they saw an officer lying on the road.

‘More police were still rolling and they were coming from all directions,’ Miller continued. ‘It wasn’t long til I heard a helicopter.’

At that point, Miller said, a police officer urged him to get out of the area. 

Governor Josh Shapiro released a statement online soon after, stating he was heading to the scene. He urged those nearby to follow the guidance of local law enforcement and Pennsylvania State Police.

The Mexican Consulate said the agency is ‘monitoring the incident’ and that the ‘Mexican community is advised to follow official instructions’.

It is unclear why the consulate is involved and authorities have yet to confirm if Mexican nationals are affected. The post has since been deleted.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the agency is ‘monitoring’ the event and that ‘violence must stop.’ 

‘We are coordinating with interagency partners and will provide more updates as they become available. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. This violence must end,’ he stated.

The school district clarified that the officer-involved incident does not involve students or schools. Wellspan Hospital is currently on lockdown, as reported by CBS 21.

The Daily Mail contacted the Pennsylvania State Police for comment.

Congressman Scott Perry wrote online: ‘Pray that everyone is safe as this unfolds.’ 

Lieutenant Governor Austin A. Davis shared the same instructions with the public, also posting: ‘Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County. 

‘As we learn more, follow all guidance from police and stay away from the area.’ 

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday told the public to follow all law enforcement instructions, adding that he was ‘en route to the area’ and was ‘praying for all involved’. 

The Pennsylvania House Republicans issued a statement on X.

‘We are troubled and deeply saddened by the shooting of multiple officers in York County, PA today,’ the group said.

‘We are thankful for the swift actions of all first responders and for the daily sacrifices our law enforcement officers make for our safety every day.’

Democrat Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman also shared a message regarding the shooting. 

‘This is awful news and a shocking day for York County, our police force, and the entire community,’ Fetterman wrote on X. 

‘While we wait for more information, please continue sheltering in place and avoid the area. My staff and I will keep folks updated as we learn more.’
