Henry Phillips Biography – Henry Phillips Wiki
Henry Phillips, a self-taught culinary enthusiast, is participating in the MasterChef UK 2025 competition. His journey in cooking began during his university years, where he discovered a deep affection for food, devoured numerous cooking shows, and amassed a collection of cookbooks. This hobby has since evolved into his primary passion.
Henry’s main drive for cooking is his love of food itself. He shared with the BBC that, “I cook meals for my partner and I to devour together. This leads to a lot of variety in my cooking, as we quickly tire of the same dishes—except, perhaps, for fresh pasta. I enjoy creating dishes that require construction or assembly, like intricate pies or dumplings, which feel more like craft projects.
“My initial culinary influences were modern British and Italian cuisines. The first dish I mastered was fresh pasta, which was a hit. I also became fascinated with homemade pizza and was among the early adopters of a portable home pizza oven in 2014. Hosting pizza parties has been a long-standing tradition. What beats a good pizza, anyway? Over time, I’ve also drawn inspiration from Japanese cuisine, and more recently, Southeast Asian flavors. I enjoy exploring new culinary landscapes, often switching between different styles of cooking.”
Henry attended Marlowe House from 2005 to 2010 as a day student. He pursued Economics at the University of Bristol, earning a first-class degree. Following his studies, he returned to King’s College to teach economics and served as Deputy Housemaster at The Grange for two years.

Henry Phillips MasterChef UK
Henry Phillips is competing in the 21st season of MasterChef UK, featured on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, aiming to dazzle the judges in his pursuit of the title MasterChef UK Champion.
In a conversation with the BBC, Henry revealed: “This was my third application attempt, but the first time I made it to the initial round. Persistent cooks don’t give up! It wasn’t particularly my intention to enter this year specifically, rather it turned out to be the right moment. Generally, I felt inspired because the competition looks incredibly exciting! I imagine enjoying the experience, and having my chopping skills synchronized with the beats of MasterChef’s dramatic music scene would be a dream.”
“I would love to do something in food as a career. I am already on my third career (Teaching, Consultant, Retail) so a fourth spin at something new could be fun. In particular, I’d love to teach people to cook. I’d love to combine my first career – secondary school teacher – with my love of food.”
