During the preliminary hearing for Tyler McCain on Thursday, evidence was presented involving a video capturing the Californian, accused of murdering his wife Nikki McCain, where he was seen acting violently and using profanities prior to her disappearance.

The court reviewed footage from a Ring camera that showed Tyler McCain “threatening to kill his wife and her family,” as reported by the Record Searchlight.

This video evidence was introduced at the Shasta County Superior Court in Redding to ascertain if there is enough proof to proceed with a murder trial.

“Open the f****** door,” Tyler McCain shouted in the video.

“If you don’t open the door now, I swear I will f****** kill you,” his voice was heard saying after someone inside said “no.”

Previously, CrimeOnline indicated that the Redding Police Department last had contact with Nikki on May 17, 2024, before she was picked up from a residence near Win-River Casino in Redding.

Nikki’s truck, a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche with the license plate DP154UT, was also missing but later discovered by police on May 25, 2024, in western Tehama County, as per the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

Shasta County authorities later reclassified Nikki’s disappearance as a homicide, and charged Tyler McCain with the murder last month.

According to Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett, Tyler McCain’s alleged reason for his actions was to prevent Nikki, a mother of four, from providing testimony against him in a domestic violence case.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Shortly after allegedly threatening Nikki and her family, the Ring camera captured him screaming, once again pressuring them to open the door.

“I’m asking you please nicely to open the f****** door. I will kill everyone in this f****** house. I swear everyone in the family will die.”

“I’m calm now. Open the door. Open the door. Open the door. Open the door,” he said later.

Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Detective Kilee Holroyd testified Thursday that the male’s voice in the video was the defendant, and the person who said “no” was Nikki McCain.

Previous Video Coverage

Although the date of the video is undetermined, the incident reportedly happened at the residence of Nikki’s sister, Chloe Saelee, who is the guardian of the McCain couple’s four children.

Holyrood told the court that Nikki had been temporarily staying with her sister after marital issues with Tyler McCain, who had allegedly been drinking excessively.

Meanwhile, the prosecution estimated that the hearing will conclude on September 23.

Superior Court Judge Thomas L. Bender is tasked with determining if the murder case against Tyler McCain will proceed.
