ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Pete Pride has given a response following Tampa Pride’s decision to temporarily halt its 2026 Pride celebration due to political and economic challenges.

Following the Friday Facebook announcement of the one-year pause, Dr. Byron Green-Calisch, the St. Pete Pride Board President, released the following statement:

“We want to be crystal clear: St Pete Pride is here to stay.

The hiatus of a single event does not signify the silencing of our voices, the disappearance of our presence, or the loss of our rights. St. Pete Pride is steadfastly dedicated to establishing, safeguarding, and broadening queer spaces throughout Tampa Bay.

The LGBTQ+ community in Tampa is entitled to lively, safe, and prominent spaces, and we are committed to ensuring that these spaces continue to flourish.

We have always appreciated Tampa Pride, and now is a moment to rekindle these connections, bolster our collaborations, and work together to ensure that Pride across Tampa Bay is not only maintained but expanded for future generations.

Regarding St. Pete Pride, we have events already planned and scheduled for this year, and preparations for our 2026 Pride celebration are in progress. More details will be shared soon.”

With more than 300,000 annual attendees, St. Pete Pride is considered the largest Pride celebration in the Southeast.

St. Pete Pride is a non-profit organization that celebrates and supports the LGBTQIA+ community through educational programs, cultural events, and advocacy actions.
