NYC teen stabbed in front of mom while walking to HS -- as 2 other students also nabbed with guns at their schools

A 17-year-old was stabbed in front of his mother while walking to school in The Bronx on Monday. Hours later, two other New York City students were arrested after guns were found at their schools, police said.

The first incident unfolded around 9:30 a.m. near East 172nd Street and Sheridan Avenue in Mount Eden. The teenager and his mother were heading toward the William H. Taft High School Educational Campus when two suspects allegedly confronted them, according to police and sources.

Authorities said one assailant struck the student while the other stabbed him in the buttocks.

The victim had been on his way to register for classes but was instead taken to Harlem Hospital. He was listed in stable condition, police said.

The two suspects remained at large.

Less than an hour later, an 18-year-old student was arrested on Staten Island after school safety officers found a loaded gun in his backpack while breaking up a fight, authorities and sources said.

Samuel Owusu was involved in the altercation with another student at Curtis High School on Hamilton Avenue in the St. George neighborhood around 10:20 a.m. Officers separated the pair, according to police and sources.

Police said a search of Owusu’s backpack uncovered a gun loaded with bullets.

He faces several weapons-possession charges along with a charge of unlawful cannabis possession, authorities said.

The teenager did not display or use the gun during the fight, police said.

By that afternoon, police had made another gun arrest involving a student in Queens.

The 17-year-old was passing through a security scanner at the Queens School for Career Development on Linden Boulevard near 143rd Street in South Jamaica when the device detected a firearm in his backpack, according to police and sources. Authorities had not determined whether the weapon was loaded.

The student was taken into custody but had not been formally charged as of Monday evening.
