Phil Jones is among a group of former Premier League stars to graduate from the PFA Business School, securing a Diploma in Sport Directorship.

The former Manchester United defender, who retired last year at 32, received his diploma at a ceremony this week. Posting photos on Instagram in his cap and gown, Jones suggested the next phase of his career.

“Global Sporting Directors course done @thepfabusiness,” he wrote. “Building on my coaching badges and current Pro Licence as the journey continues…”

Congratulations flowed from former United and England teammates including Antonio Valencia and Kyle Walker, as well as Benni McCarthy and Sam Allardyce – the manager who first gave him his professional debut at Blackburn Rovers.

Jones wasn’t the only familiar name among the graduating class.

Tim Krul, former goalkeeper for Newcastle and Norwich, and West Brom stalwart Kyle Bartley also received diplomas in Sport Directorship, while Premier League winner Danny Simpson completed a diploma in Football Psychology, Emotional Intelligence & Leadership.

There were current stars too: Newcastle’s Yoane Wissa and five-time Premier League champion Ilkay Gündogan were both part of the latest intake.

Regarding Jones, with Manchester United facing significant challenges both on and off the field, some fans may wonder if a future role back at Old Trafford is looming.
