Alleged New Hampshire country club gunman Hunter Nadeau charged after shooting leaves 1 dead, multiple injured

A 23-year-old named Hunter Nadeau has been identified as the shooter who killed one person and injured two others during a wedding event at a country club in New Hampshire on Saturday night.

Nadeau faces charges of second-degree murder for the death of 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, as reported by Attorney General John M. Formella on Sunday morning. The tragic incident took place at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire.

The gunman is alleged to have entered the venue, where a wedding reception was underway, and opened fire with a handgun at around 7:30 p.m. DeCesare lost his life, and two other adults, whose identities have not been revealed, were injured during the attack.

Tom Bartelson, a guest at the wedding and an eyewitness, recounted the gunman shouting phrases like “free Palestine” and “the children are safe” before unleashing several shots into the gathering.

“We were just getting ready for a dance for the bride and groom when everything erupted into chaos,” Bartelson revealed to the Associated Press. “We heard about six shots and everyone tried to find cover. Next thing, we were hurried into safe areas and things like that.”

Officials did not find an immediate connection between Nadeau and his victims.

Bartelson recalled guests panicking during the chaos as they fled for safety.

“We were trying to keep family members safe,” Bartelson said. “Keep everybody down and try to find safe spots.”

The gunman was arrested at the scene, officials said.

“Video surveillance has confirmed there was only one shooter and they are currently being detained,” police said on X around 9:30 p.m.

Nadeau is expected to be slapped with additional charges stemming from the wounded victims.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua on Monday.
