BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — A fatality occurred and another individual suffered serious injuries following a boat collision Saturday night on South Holston Lake in Sullivan County.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) reported that the incident occurred Saturday around 9:45 p.m. A bass boat with two occupants collided with a support pillar of the Highway 421 bridge.

The report indicated that the vessel’s operator incurred serious injuries, while the passenger, 72-year-old Ronald E. Taylor from Virginia, was declared dead at the location. The TWRA confirmed that Taylor’s body will undergo an autopsy at a medical examiner’s office.

“TWRA expresses its appreciation to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County Rescue Squad, Bristol Life Saving Crew, and a local volunteer fire department for their help,” the release says.

The TWRA said the crash remains under investigation, and the incident marks the 20th boating-related fatality on Tennessee waterways this year.
