The brother of a murder victim is harshly criticizing former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for saying Chicago’s crime crisis has been “manufactured.”

In an early September discussion on CNN’s “The Arena,” Lightfoot claimed that President Donald Trump fabricated a crime emergency in Chicago, which he has used as a basis to threaten the deployment of the National Guard.

“This situation was never about addressing violent crime,” Lightfoot stated. “We shouldn’t deceive ourselves into thinking that this contrived crisis and his effort to incite people in Chicago is a legitimate use of authority. It clearly is not.”

“[Trump] will not do any of these things because this is not about violent crime, it’s about something else.

During an election night event on February 28, 2023, in Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke at Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council after losing her campaign for reelection.

Caldwell pushed back on Lightfoot’s comments when speaking with Fox News Digital, saying that families in Chicago are desperately asking for help.

As Evan Caldwell pointed out, “The Democrats are disregarding a crisis that has caused suffering for families like mine. My brother Christian was murdered on June 24, 2022, in Chicago. Families are in distress and pleading for assistance,” Caldwell expressed. “People in Chicago have been longing for someone to genuinely address crime and implement policies that ensure citizens’ safety.”

Caldwell said that Lightfoot’s comments regarding crime don’t “square with the reality that people are facing.”

Following a shooting on Wabash Avenue on January 26, 2024, Chicago police gathered evidence between Madison and Washington streets.

“Residents are alarmed by the situations they are facing in Chicago. It’s not a norm, nor should it be accepted as one, but it has been made such by the Democratic Party, which has continuously failed numerous communities in this regard, notably the Black community,” he commented.

Fox News Digital reached out to Lightfoot for comment.
