FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. () – The Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) has detained a man suspected of causing a bad smell at a high school in Florence.

A Facebook update from the sheriff’s office detailed that from August 25th to September 19th, Alexander Paul Robertson Lewis, who worked as a teaching assistant at West Florence High School, used an online-purchased spray meant to mimic the scent of feces within the school premises.

Authorities reported that Lewis applied the spray several times, leading to disruptions in the school environment. This resulted in some students needing medical care for breathing problems and caused more than $55,000 in expenses for inspecting and repairing the school’s air conditioning system.

The 32-year-old was arrested September 19th and charged with Disturbing Schools and Malicious Injury to Property

FCSO said the investigation into this matter is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

Lewis is being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
