Bryan Co. EMA: Stock up on supplies, make a plan

BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. () — With Storm Team 3 actively tracking tropical developments, Bryan County authorities advise residents to review their emergency supplies.

Alli Padgett, director of the Bryan County Emergency Management Agency, said one key is water and food.

“For those unfamiliar with the locale, one crucial aspect is water availability. We recommend having enough provisions for 72 hours for comfort. This includes your water, food, and other essentials,” explained Padgett.

Padgett recommends stocking up on non-perishables and making sure families are prepared if the power goes out.

“It’s important to have coolers with ice to preserve your food as long as possible or at least until you can get a home generator,” she mentioned. “This is especially vital for moms with newborns. If they’re breastfeeding, you don’t want to lose any stored milk.”

In addition to having adequate supplies, Padgett said many families forget one of the most important steps: communication.

“Creating a family communication strategy is essential,” she added. “Discuss what actions to take when storms arise with your family. Treat it like a small drill so that they know what to expect. This way, it’s less intimidating for young children and becomes more of a routine in case something happens.”

Meanwhile, county officials are taking steps to be ready for storms.

“We conducted a meeting today with our partners—both local and state—to ensure everyone is aligned. This helps us maintain a clear communication line and ensures seamless information flow to the community,” Padgett stated.

Officials emphasize that staying informed is crucial. Bryan County residents can register for CodeRED alerts to receive immediate emergency notifications.
