SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — People in Central Illinois can now access driver’s license and vehicle renewal services anytime, day or night, through drive-through DMV kiosks in Springfield.

These kiosks are situated at the Secretary of State’s Office’s Springfield Flagship Center, specifically on the north side. They allow for the instant printing of license plate stickers and provide services for renewing vehicle registrations, driver’s licenses, and state IDs.

“The Fast-Lane kiosks at our Springfield Flagship Center give Central Illinois drivers a new level of convenience, offering the ability to renew driver’s licenses and purchase vehicle stickers outside regular business hours, all without leaving your car,” stated Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias in a press release. “This represents a crucial advancement in our ongoing efforts to modernize the office and streamline access to essential services for everyone.”

Introduced to retailers last year, these kiosks present an alternative resource for individuals lacking online access to DMV services or those with tight schedules that make it challenging to visit a DMV. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, kiosk renewals are both more convenient and cost-effective compared to those at most currency exchanges or emission testing centers.

Renewal notices will come with a unique bar code and PIN to be entered when using a kiosk, officials added.

New applicants for driver or vehicle services, however, still need to make an in-person visit at a DMV. That includes people applying for a REAL ID.

The Springfield Flagship Center will maintain its schedule for walk-ins and appointments from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. To schedule an appointment, individuals can visit www.ilsos.gov or call (800) 252-8980.
