BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A Bloomington man died four days after an accident in which a vehicle struck a utility pole.

In the early hours of Saturday, September 20, around 5:15 a.m., Bloomington Police Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Hinshaw Avenue following a report of a motor vehicle accident resulting in injuries. The Bloomington Fire Department also responded to the call.

Upon their arrival, officers secured the accident site while paramedics attended to the injured passenger. Given the seriousness of the crash, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to assist with the investigation.

The front seat passenger, an adult male, was taken to a nearby hospital with “potentially life-threatening injuries.” The other occupants in the vehicle suffered injuries that were deemed not life-threatening.

Initial investigations suggest that the vehicle was moving north on Hinshaw Avenue when, for reasons not yet determined, it veered off the road and collided with a utility pole.

McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder reported that on September 24, at 9:24 a.m., 22-year-old Travis Floyd of Bloomington was declared deceased at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, four days after the crash. The preliminary autopsy revealed that Floyd succumbed to blunt head trauma resulting from the vehicle hitting a stationary object. It was noted these injuries occurred while he was seated in the front passenger seat.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing, led by the Bloomington Police Department, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the McLean County Coroner’s Office. Individuals with any information are encouraged to reach out to the Bloomington Police Department at 309-820-8888.
