Despite online rumors suggesting a suspect is identified, authorities have not confirmed any arrests and have advised residents to remain indoors:
They wrote in a Facebook post just before 10pm: ‘There are reports of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin.
‘There is an unknown number of injuries. Avoid the area and remain in your homes.Â
‘Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 911.’
The boat was described as a ‘white center console boat.’
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on social media that they were assisting the city of Southport with the incident.

There has been a spate of violence in this country in recent weeks, horribly highlighted by the tragic assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, but there is no information at this time about whether this was a politically motivated attack. Our hearts go out to the victims, and we will keep you updated as new information comes in.
