HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Curtis Harris-Lopez took a kickoff 88 yards back for a touchdown, helping James Madison secure a 35-10 victory over Georgia Southern in their Sun Belt Conference opener on Saturday.
Harris-Lopez’s dash to the end zone put the Dukes (3-1) ahead 21-3. JMU extended their lead further with Alonza Barnett III throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass over the middle to Lacota Dippre and Jordan Fuller executing a 26-yard touchdown run around the left edge.
Wayne Knight ran for 151 yards on 19 attempts, including a 40-yard touchdown to score the game’s first points. Fuller contributed 137 yards on 16 carries and Barrett added a rushing touchdown as well. The Dukes amassed 331 rushing yards and outgained Georgia Southern 479-192 in total yards. Barrett also passed for 148 yards.
Trent Hendrick led a JMU defense that held the Eagles (2-1) to just 27 yards rushing on 26 attempts with three sacks among his 11 tackles, six solo.
JC French IV threw for 165 yards with a 12-yard TD toss to Taylor Bradshaw. Camden Brown had 111 yards receiving.
