They were once so close that they referred to themselves as a ‘throuple’. 

When Selena Gomez exchanged vows with Benny Blanco on Saturday in front of her closest friends and family, Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz were surprisingly absent.

The event reportedly welcomed 170 guests, including Selena’s best friend Taylor Swift, her co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin, as well as celebrities like Paris Hilton and Ed Sheeran.

So tongues were sent wagging over their absence, particularly given Selena also didn’t attend their vow renewal earlier this month. 

Their absence was even more puzzling after Gordon Ramsay, a close friend to the estranged David and Victoria Beckham, offered his congratulations, highlighting the ongoing feud with Brooklyn and Nicola.

However, a source familiar with the situation has insisted that Nicola and Brooklyn’s absence was unavoidable. 

Previously, Selena, Nicola, and Brooklyn were so tight-knit that they referred to themselves as a “throuple,” which made their absence more noticeable since Selena also missed their vow renewal.

They told Daily Mail: ‘Nicola is in strict preparation for a new role, and was unavailable. She and Brooklyn wish Selena and Benny all the best.’ 

Gordon was also not at the ceremony, but met Selena when he appeared on her cooking show Selena + Chef, which launched in 2020. 

He was quick to show his love for the singer on social media, however, after Selena shared a photograph from her wedding ceremony. 

Gordon commented: ‘So happy for the both of you. Congrats !Gx’ 

Selena, Nicola, and Brooklyn had become very close over the years, with Selena jokingly labeling them as a “throuple” in 2023.

However their frequent snaps seemed to dissipate as Selena began dating music producer Benny two years ago. 

A report from The Sun earlier this summer hinted that Selena and Benny had grown weary of Nicola’s “diva” behavior, which seemed to ring true when Selena did not attend Nicola and Brooklyn’s vow renewal in August.

However, at the time an insider refuted this point. 

Adding more confusion was a congratulation from Gordon Ramsay, close friend of the David and Victoria Beckham – whom are notably estranged from Brooklyn and Nicola

‘Selena and Benny have not had any falling out with Nicola or Brooklyn,’ the insider told the Daily Mail.

‘They are still friends. When it comes to their vow renewal, [Selena] can celebrate them privately. She feels she doesn’t have to legitimize her friendships with anyone through an online post or comment.’

But it was a vastly different story nearly three years ago.

Selena’s social media account was once filled with photos and videos showcasing her close relationship with the couple, from girls’ night sleepovers, to luxury vacations and gushing birthday tributes.

Yet her last post featuring Nicola was shared in a photo dump that December, while Nicola’s most recent post with Selena was taken at Benny’s birthday party in March 2024.

What’s more, Nicola and Brooklyn have gone from liking nearly every one of Selena’s Instagram posts to becoming silent followers of the Rare Beauty founder – even as they each marked major milestones in their lives.

Following the passing of her 95-year-old grandmother – nicknamed ‘Naunni’ – in 2024, Nicola paid tribute to her beloved family member on the one-year anniversary of her death in May.

While Selena had initially liked Nicola’s Instagram post announcing her grandmother’s death last year, the singer was nowhere to be found in the likes or the comments of Nicola’s most recent tribute post.

Selena also failed to show some love to the couple online in April, when they marked their third wedding anniversary with a sweet Instagram post.

An insider told Daily Mail: ‘Nicola is in strict preparation for a new role, and was unavailable. She and Brooklyn wish Selena and Benny all the best’

But it’s not just Selena who’s been the silent one.

As for Nicola and Brooklyn, they remained mum amid the social media rollout of Selena’s album with Benny last March, as well as the five-year anniversary of her mental health charity, the Rare Impact Fund.

To outsiders, it would seem as if the once-close ‘throuple’ have fallen out of love with each other. 

But insiders insisted that Selena, Nicola and Brooklyn’s social media activities should be taken with a pinch of salt, as not everything posted online is reflective of their everyday lives.

Daily Mail has contacted Nicola, Brooklyn and Selena’s representatives for comment. 

The actress first struck up a friendship with Nicola and Brooklyn when they met at the Academy Museum Gala in October 2022. 

They formed an instant connection, and one month later they were already celebrating Thanksgiving together. 

Also at the Thanksgiving festivities was Nicola’s brother Bradley Peltz, who was once rumored to be dating Selena, even furthering her bond with Nicola.

In January 2023, the trio went on vacation together to Los Cabos, Mexico, as they shared photos and videos from their luxury yacht

The trio then rang in the new year together when they went on vacation in Los Cabos, Mexico, in January 2023. 

They each shared a slew of photos taken on their luxury yacht, and Selena and Nicola took their friendship one step further by getting matching tattoos of the word ‘angel’ written in script on their forearms.

Selena went on to post a carousel of photos from their Mexico vacation to her Instagram, as one of the snaps showed the actress snuggling with the married couple and embracing each other in a group hug.

She joked in the caption: ‘Fine calls us a throuple #foreverplusone’.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK that March, Nicola shed light on her friendship with Selena by describing her as her ‘soul sister’ with a ‘heart of gold.’

‘She’s truly one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my whole life. The kindest person ever. I feel like I’ve known her forever,’ she said.
