NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A large, scenic stretch of land near Abiquiu is up for sale. It belongs to a Hollywood legend, actress Shirley MacLaine.
The breathtaking 7,500-acre estate boasts remarkable geological features. According to the ranch brokers, the landscape served as an inspiration for the renowned artist Georgia O’Keeffe. “The Plaza Blanca Ranch is famous for its distinctive geological structures, sweeping vistas, and cultural importance.
Famed painter Georgia O’Keeffe captured the white sandstone cliffs in her work, drawn to the striking landscapes surrounding Abiquiu,” stated Robert Martin, Ranch Broker with Fay Ranches.
MacLaine acquired the property thirty-five years ago. At that time, it consisted of only two old adobe buildings, which she transformed into a 9,000 square foot luxury residence. MacLaine, known for her roles in numerous films, including the Oscar-winning “Terms of Endearment,” later purchased this ranch and another residence in Santa Fe.
The ranch is listed for $17.4 million. “I anticipate high interest in this property. I think the price is right, and it’s in a stunning location. Having a celebrity connection certainly helps,” remarked Robert Martin. He highlighted that the property also features views of the Chama River valley and Copper Canyon.
The estate comprises a home, barn, and workshop on its expansive acres. It is situated near Abiquiu and partially borders seven miles of Carson National Forest. Native American petroglyphs, discovered during MacLaine’s ownership, further enrich the property’s offerings. In 2014, MacLaine previously listed the estate for $18 million, but it did not sell at that time.
