A Florida man was arrested last week for allegedly killing, eating, and cooking his pet peacocks.
On September 23, Craig Vogt, aged 61, placed a note in his neighbor’s mailbox confessing to the killing of two peacocks, which often wandered into his yard. The letter described how Vogt had decapitated the peacocks and allowed them to bleed out as he planned to consume them for dinner, as reported by WTVT.
The neighbor said she would feed the peacocks that roamed in Vogt’s yard. Vogt allegedly threatened to kill the birds if she continued feeding them.
The discovery of the letter led the neighbor to contact the Pasco County police. During an interview with the officers, Vogt admitted to having a long-standing disagreement with the neighbor regarding the feeding of the peacocks. Vogt confessed to killing the birds as an act of malice, before proceeding to cook and eat them, according to WTVT.
Vogt also told police that he killed the peacocks “to prove a point,” WREG reported.
While being arrested, Vogt allegedly threatened to kill the rest of his pet peacocks to prevent anyone else from caring for them.
Vogt was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals with excessive pain or death. He remains jailed on $25,000 bond.
