A 61-year-old man is facing charges for killing and eating his pet peacocks after a fight with his neighbor over feeding them.

In Tampa, Florida, a man confessed to deputies that he killed and consumed his pet peacocks as an act of revenge against his neighbor following a disagreement over her feeding the birds.

Tricia Day-Barker called Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, reporting a conflict with 61-year-old Craig Vogt regarding his pets. According to the arrest report, she stated that Vogt slaughtered two peacocks at his Hudson residence because of her persistent feeding.

Vogt admitted to deputies that he had placed a letter in Day-Barker’s mailbox, warning her about the bird’s death and threatening to continue killing the animals if she persisted in feeding them.

He explained to authorities that he killed the two birds by slitting their throats with a knife and letting them bleed out before frying and eating them.

The report noted, “The defendant’s actions caused unnecessary or repeated suffering, resulting in the animals’ cruel death.”

While being transported to jail, Vogt said he plans to kill all his pet peacocks to prevent anyone from taking custody of them.

Vogt is now facing charges for aggravated animal cruelty due to intentionally committing an act against an animal while having custody of it.
