BEIJING – Jannik Sinner claimed victory at the China Open by defeating American teen Learner Tien with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win in the final on Wednesday, further honing his form ahead of the Shanghai Masters.

Following a setback at the U.S. Open, Sinner captured his third championship of the season—bringing his career total to 21 titles—by overpowering 19-year-old Tien, who was the tournament’s second-youngest finalist.

“We will try to improve and push for more and let’s see what the rest of the season looks like, but I am very happy,” Sinner said.

Sinner now heads to Shanghai, anticipated to be a strong contender following Carlos Alcaraz’s exit due to an ankle issue, which surfaced during the first round of the Japan Open he won on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Sinner secured his 11th consecutive victory against Alex de Minaur in the China Open semifinals. His 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 performance secured him a ninth consecutive hard-court final. Tien, ranked No. 52, reached his maiden tour final after Daniil Medvedev withdrew with an injury when trailing 5-7, 7-5, 4-0 on Tuesday.

The ATP event in Beijing paralleled the WTA 1000 tournament, now progressing to the fourth round with its conclusion on Sunday. Key matchups later Wednesday featured top-seeded Iga Swiatek and fifth-seeded Jessica Pegula.

Second-seeded Coco Gauff has already qualified for the quarterfinals, which she is scheduled to play against Eva Lys on Thursday.
