However, let me make it clear: I do not think our military should reflect these traits. The armed forces defending our nation cannot emulate a pastor or a counselor. Their duty is not to soothe but to engage in combat. Their mission is not to offer comfort but to vanquish any adversary that threatens our homeland.
This is why Pete Hegseth’s recent address resonated deeply. Our military should not be treading lightly into cultural sensitivity. It requires a focus honed for combat, free from ‘wokeness,’ and zeroed in on the primary duty of safeguarding America. His speech was a strong proclamation that it’s time to draw the line. He directly addressed “woke culture,” demanding improved standards in fitness and grooming, called for a removal of what he perceives as political influences, and redefined the true mission: this is a combat-ready force, not a socio-political trial.

Let’s cut to why that matters, and why Hegseth’s critics miss the point.
The military’s mission is national defense, not virtue signaling
The purpose of the U.S. military is to deter threats, display strength, and protect our nation. It should not be a platform for ideological maneuvers. In recent times, the Pentagon’s leadership appears increasingly entangled in cultural maneuvers. Are others also weary of DEI policies, identity-based programs, and symbolic “firsts” in promotions? Hegseth decisively opposed this direction. He declared an end to racial quotas, revoked flexible grooming policies, and enforced stricter fitness benchmarks, all to realign the focus on the mission at hand.
A fighting force doesn’t win wars by checking cultural boxes. It wins by readiness, unity, and ferocity.
