Andre Myers has been taken into custody for the deadly hit-and-run incident involving 13-year-old Genesis Webber. Myers has an extensive history of traffic and criminal offenses that dates back several decades.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New details are emerging about the man accused of hitting and killing 13-year-old Genesis Webber and then leaving the scene.

Police arrested 54-year-old Andre Myers just one day after the deadly crash on Arlington Road.

Our team at First Coast News has been investigating his background and discovered details that prompt significant concerns about why he was permitted to drive at all.

“He continued on, believing he had escaped, but you can run, yet you can’t hide,” stated Ken Jefferson, a crime and safety specialist with First Coast News.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported finding Myers asleep in his truck late Wednesday night. He was wearing a GPS monitor while out on bond for an offense committed back in June.

An arrest document dated June 1, 2025, indicates Myers was charged with aggravated assault for attempting to run over an individual with his vehicle at a car wash on Lem Turner Road.

The report said he chased the man around the parking lot, threatened to kill him then drove his car at him.

Court records reveal that Myers has an extensive criminal record stretching back nearly thirty years, which includes charges like battery, multiple speeding violations, and at least six counts of driving with a suspended license.

Despite his long traffic history, JSO says Myers was out of jail and driving again.

Jefferson said this should have never happened.

“Two things came to my mind when I saw that is that he has anger issues and he’s a habitual traffic offender who should never, ever be allowed to sit in a vehicle and drive, whatsoever,” Jefferson said.

“That’s all on the judicial system. The officers did their job when they pulled him over and realized that he has a suspended license,” he said. “Once they make the arrest and put him in the system.”

Webber’s family now left grieving a young life cut short and a community asking how someone with this history could be behind the wheel.

“The only thing that I can think of how to address that is to put him behind bars for a long time,” Jefferson said.

First Coast News reached out to Genesis’s mother, Shardae Webber, when the arrest was announced. She sent us a statement saying: “I would like to say thank you to JSO for doing everything to make sure that this guy was caught. I can have closure knowing that he can’t be able to do it to anyone else.”

Andre Myers is still behind bars in the Duval County Jail.

His next court date is Oct. 23.
