‘The Great North’ Canceled at Fox After Five Seasons

It’s official: Fox is saying goodbye to The Great North.

The network has confirmed that the animated comedy will not be returning for a sixth season, wrapping up its run just two weeks after the conclusion of Season 5. The series—executive produced by Bob’s Burgers veterans Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, and Loren Bouchard—had been a familiar part of Fox’s Sunday Animation Domination lineup since 2021.

“We’re incredibly thankful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren, and the extraordinary cast and crew contributed to The Great North,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “Saying goodbye is tough, but we are grateful for the five comedic seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup.”

This cancellation signifies the end of Fox’s 2025 “bubble” shows—a group that also included Rescue HI-Surf, Accused, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and The Cleaning Lady. Among them, Accused is still on hold with potential to return in an event form, but the others have been officially concluded.

While Rescue HI-Surf was canceled back in May, Alert, The Cleaning Lady, and The Great North awaited their fate until their most recent seasons wrapped up. (Alert and The Cleaning Lady were canceled in June.)

For enthusiasts of The Great North, the signs were clear when the show was not included in Fox’s April mega-deal with 20th TV Animation, which extended The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad! for another four years.

With American Dad! returning to the Fox roster and new series like Krapopolis and Grimsburg being renewed, the network’s animated lineup was becoming quite crowded. Something had to give—and unfortunately, that sacrificed show was The Great North.

Created by the Molyneux sisters and Regular Show alum Minty Lewis, the series followed the Tobin family’s Alaskan adventures. Single dad Beef (Nick Offerman) tried to keep his quirky crew close—especially daughter Judy (Jenny Slate), whose artistic dreams took her from the fishing boat to the local mall.

Rounding out the family were Wolf (Will Forte) and his wife Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), middle brother Ham (Paul Rust), and 10-year-old philosopher Moon (Aparna Nancherla). Judy’s mother was out of the picture, but she still found guidance from her boss Alyson (Megan Mullally) and her celestial confidante, Alanis Morissette (voicing herself, naturally).

Despite flying under the radar, The Great North carved out a loyal fan base and became Fox’s first successful new animated series since Bob’s Burgers. After five seasons of Northern charm and family weirdness, it’s earned a well-deserved spot in the Animation Domination hall of fame.
