Floodwaters are surging through Salt Lake City, Utah, significantly affecting local residents, as emergency crews attempt to manage the situation and control the water levels.

The most affected region is around 1955 West 800 North. A longtime resident, who has been living there for four decades, told local affiliate KTVX that he’s never witnessed such conditions before.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department reported that the water system has become overwhelmed due to excessive water coming from the nearby valley. Public Works teams are on site distributing sandbags, and additional pumps have been ordered to manage the excess water.

Councilmember Victoria Petro said she’s working to help families impacted by the flooding.

Petro, a community member, emphasized, “This is a neighborhood of hardworking, blue-collar families. Their houses are their main investments. I’m committed to staying until the flooding subsides.”

Local authorities are actively working to contain the flood and avert further damage. Keep clear of streams, channels, and waterways, and be careful when driving through waterlogged areas.”

Salt Lake County officials said their flood control team is working to clear debris and bring in as many pumps as possible to clear the flooding.
