ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A civilian staff member from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was apprehended for trying to engage in sexual acts with a minor, according to a statement by JSO officials on Monday.

JSO reported that the individual, Terrance Owens, age 32, was part of the Communications Center team and had been employed at the agency since June 2025. The statement highlighted that he was “immediately” terminated from his position.

As per the news release, Owens was detained by St. Johns County deputies on September 15, 2025, facing accusations including traveling to meet a minor for sexual conduct, lewd and lascivious battery, human trafficking, illegal use of a two-way communication device, and carrying a firearm during a felony act.

“We expect our police, corrections, and civilian staff to adhere to the highest standards, and any criminal conduct is unacceptable,” stated JSO officials. “We appreciate the diligent efforts of our colleagues at the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in safeguarding our children.”
